About PhotoKids 2013

PhotoKids 2013 is an exhibition of photography by local middle school kids.

PhotoKids is a summer program for middle school students that combines hands-on science with photography. The program is managed by the Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County in collaboration with community partner Identity, and led by teaching artist and photographer Joanne Miller.

PhotoKids has three simple goals:

  • To provide teens with enriching experiences and caring mentors during otherwise unsupervised hours
  • To introduce students to digital photography
  • To expose students to the natural world through experiential learning

Twenty-two students particpated in field trips throughout Montgomery County to develop their photography skills and introduce them to the myriad green spaces available in their own communities. The destinations ranged from the Greenway Trail to Butler's Orchard to Brookside Gardens and Black Hill Regional Park. With each new adventure, the students documented their interactions with nature. The PhotoKids 2013 exhibit highlights many of their favorite memories and showcases their growth as young artists and environmentalists.
