Founded in 1977, AAAL is a professional organization of scholars who are interested in and actively contribute to the multi-disciplinary field of applied linguistics.

Maryland TESOL is a professional, non-profit association dedicated to the improvement and advancement of teaching English to speakers of other languages. Maryland TESOL is an affiliate of TESOL, the international organization of professionals interested in teaching English to speakers of other languages

Founded in 1883 by teachers and scholars, the Modern Language Association promotes the study and teaching of language and literature. Includes a Language Studies division, with subdivisions on Language and Society, Language Theory, Applied Linguistics and Language Change.

WATESOL's (Washington Area Teachers of English as a Second Language) is a successful nonprofit association in the DC Area with members from districts and counties within Maryland, Virginia, and Washington DC.
