Pressbooks Directory
A repository of over 5000 open books and other materials created on the PressbooksEDU platform. Using the USG Pressbooks Network platform, faculty and staff who teach/work at USG can clone, revise, remix, and redistribute all of the openly licensed content found through this Directory.
M.O.S.T. (Maryland Open Source Textbook) Commons
The Maryland Open Source Textbook (M.O.S.T.) Commons is an online space designed to support faculty and staff in discovering materials, collaborating with colleagues, and contributing OER to improve curricula.
Open Textbook Library
A library of open access textbooks that includes peer review and evaluation features.
OpenStax
Open textbooks created by a non-profit organization out of Rice University. Among the most commonly used open textbooks across the country and often come with important free ancillary materials for instructors, such as PowerPoint slides and homework answers.
BC Open Collection by BCcampus
A curated collection of textbooks, courses, and ancillary material created by educators in British Columbia, Canada.
Knowledge Commons
Formerly known as the "Humanities Commons," a repository of open access scholarship and teaching materials across the disciplines, which an emphasis on the Humanities.
LibreTexts
Collection of textbooks and modules searchable by subject and institution. Has platform for creating and modifying textbooks and recently received a grant to expand its homework and courseware platform.
Milne Open Textbooks
A catalog of open textbooks authored and peer-reviewed by SUNY faculty and staff that is managed by Milne Library Publishing at SUNY Geneseo.
Mason OER Metafinder (MOM)
Rather than searching in a single database, it performs your search simultaneously across 21 sources of OER material. Created and maintained by George Mason University.
MERLOT
A curated collection of free and open online teaching, learning, and faculty development services contributed and used by an international education community.
OASIS
Openly Available Sources Integrated Search (OASIS) is a search tool that aims to draws from 97 different sources and contains 385,629 records.
Big Ten Open Books
A collaboration between university presses and libraries of the Big Ten started in 2023. The first collection created is Gender & Sexuality Studies with more to come.

Faculty Select

Faculty Select is a tool to easily find and access OER and open access content. It can also be used to find and request unlimited-user ebooks for purchase by your home campus library. Faculty should click on the links below for their campus to access the tool.

Complete Courses

Several of the OER repositories listed in the first box on this page have filters for syllabi or courses. The resources in this box focus solely on courses.

Lumen Learning
Collection of openly licensed textbooks/courses and low-cost ($35/student) courseware and online homework management systems.
MIT OpenCourseWare
Free and open collection of lecture videos, interactive modules, textbooks, and courses. Does not require you create an account to use.
Saylor Academy
Offers nearly 100 asynchronous courses. Has transfer/direct credit programs with several institutions, including UMGC and Morgan State University.
Boundless Courses
Courses originally developed by the company Boundless, and currently maintained by Lumen Learning. Includes texts broken into chapters and modules, so that part or a whole chapter or book can be incorporated into a course.

Icon and Image Sources

Creative Commons Image Search allows you to search for images, videos, and music with specific licensing parameters on various websites. Several sites such as Google and Flickr have tools to limit your search to just images with Creative Commons licenses. Below are website that have images that are free to use. On some of the sites all are free, while others have some items with restrictions or that require paid licenses.

Flickr Creative Commons
Many Flickr users have chosen to offer their work under a Creative Commons license, and you can browse or search through content under each type of license.
The Gender Spectrum Collection
Collection of stock photos of trans and non-binary people. Maintained by Vice Media and licensed under CC-BY-NC-ND.
Images of Empowerment
Collection of photos of women from 13 countries engaging in various activities. Licensed under CC-BY-NC.
Indigenous People in Education
Collection of openly-licensed stock photos of Indigenous people in educational settings, including many in labs. Created by a team at Thompson Rivers University.

An extensive collection of icons available in PNG and SVG formats.
Open Peeps
Hand-drawn, mix-and-match illustration library. All images licensed in Public Domain (CC0).

CDC Public Health Image Library
Includes photos related to health, wellness, and natural disasters, as well as electron microscope images.
Cell Image Library
A public repository of annotated images, videos and animations of cells from a variety of organisms. Created and managed by the American Society for Cell Biology.
Europeana
Includes digital resources of Europe's museums, libraries, archives and audio-visual collections.
HHS Image Galleries
Links to various image collections from different health-related government agencies.
iBiology
Collection of research talks by scientists on a wide range of topics and catered to a wide range of audiences.
Library of Congress Digital Collections
Digitized versions of items from LoC collections. Includes photos, prints, videos, and audio files.
MedPix
Maintained by the National Library of Medicine, this open-access database includes medical images, teaching cases, and clinical topics.
New York Public Library Digital Collections
Nearly 1 million items digitized from the NYPL's collections.
